Neptune Naiadis is a multi-faceted artist, who draws her enthusiasm for powerful imaginative
and narrative imagery from a variety of personal and interpersonal experiences, as well as the
harsh realities of living in Jamaica. She is greatly influenced by a wide range of writers and
critical thinkers, including Nicole Dennis-Benn, Marlon James, and Leone Ross. In her work,
she seeks to examine the lives of others, traverse their complexities, and understand the root
of them. Each of her poems is designed to contain its own message, vision, or, at the very
least, a lesson.
The intention of Neptune’s work is to always raise questions, to challenge the reader’s mind
and to lead them to a space of thinking. In allowing her audience to be put in the space of the
narrator and empathizing with them, she intends to guide them into a space of divergency in
understanding themselves and their society. This is by no means an attempt to provide
answers but rather to confront them with a truth, a perspective and to allow them to find their
own.
